THE WORK
I know paint.
I have spent more than three decades working with it — pushing it, layering it, scraping it back, building surfaces and learning what the material will and will not do.
My paintings are abstract, but deeply rooted in the physical world: light, atmosphere, landscape, erosion, architecture, and the evidence of time. I work primarily in oil and encaustic, letting the materials themselves become part of the work's language.
My background in scenic art and architectural finishes gave me an unusually deep understanding of paint, color and surface. That knowledge is at the foundation of everything I make.
For me, painting is equal parts instinct, experience and soul.
